Parish Based Sacramental Program

What is a Parish Based Sacramental program?

Sacramental preparation that is organised, conducted and celebrated by those within the parish Community.

Why?

We are a community of Faith. The sacraments, in particular Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist celebrate our membership into the community of the people of God... The Parish community.

The Parish has the key role in supporting parents in the faith formation of their children.

Benefits

  • A relationship of genuine partnership and co-operation can develop between parents, parish and school.

  • Children are initiated into the sacramental life of the church when they and their family are ready, not simply as a grade and curriculum activity.

  • Sacramental celebration is focussed on the entire community not just the children, and becomes one of the gentle rhythms of the parish year.

  • Parents are supported and accompanied on the journey of faith with their children by the parish family.

  • Parents and the Parish community are reminded of the key role they play in the faith development of all our children.

Sacraments are more than a moment of celebration. They neither begin nor end with the liturgical ritual. They are celebrations .....community celebrations...of lived experience. They exist before, during and after the celebration.

The Church, the celebrating people of God, should be our Parish community. This living community is the nurturing environment for the development of the full personhood.
