Fr Richard BensonFr. Richard Benson CM is a Vincentian priest from California, USA. He is also a Consultor to the Provincial in the newly formed Western Province of the Congregation of the Mission in the United States. He has served at St. John's Seminary at Camarillo CA since 1993.  Currently he is the Academic Dean and Chair of the Moral Theology Department there. He teaches fundamental moral theology, Catholic social teaching (social justice), and Catholic bioethics.

Recently,  at the request of the St Vincent de Paul Society, and also St Vincent's Parish at Ashfield in Sydney. Fr Benson spent two weeks in Australia  giving a series of presentations on our Vincentian Tradition   In Perth WA he gave two presentations titled "His Vision - Our Mission".  In Adelaide SA the focus was "Learning from History, Creating History, the Tasks of Charity".  Also in Adelaide was a session for Priests centred on "Dignitas Personae",  "Caritas in Veritate", with "Imago Dei" as the moral foundation for a consistent ethic of life; then a Presentation for Volunteers titled "Renewed Vincentian Visions: From maintenance in mission - towards an effective love for the poor in the 21st century", and finally a Workshop for Leaders  titled "A Leader after the example of Vincent - The Vincentian Virtues as a foundation for the Vincentian Vision/Mission in a Post-Modern World."   On May 28, at Sevenhill, still in South Australia, he gave a Retreat for the National Council Council of the St Vincent de Paul Society.

In Melbourne, Fr Benson delivered the 2010 Ozanam Lecture titled "Go and Do Likewise - Revisioning the St Vincent de Paul Society for the 21st Century". In Sydney at St Vincent's Parish at Ashfield  he delivered a presentation to parishioners titled "Vincentian Vision/Identity",  celebrated each of the Sunday Masses on June 6, and addressed the local Parish Council.

We were fortunate to have Fr Benson with the Vincentian Family here in Australia to share his ideas on Vincentian Tradion and Vision in the year in which we celebrate the 350th Anniversary of the deaths of  Saints Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac.
